Red Bull Illume Winners TBA August 29

Since April 30th, it has been a long wait for the 6,417 photographers from around the world who entered Red Bull Illume, the world’s largest action and adventure sports photography competition.  

But that wait is almost over. On August 29th, the overall winner, top 10 category winners and top 50 finalists will be unveiled at a spectacular ceremony held in Hong Kong on the famous Avenue of Stars promenade – one of the hotspots of the buzzing city.

The 50 images will not only go on display — but be made available in high res formats for all media, together with photographer interviews and details about all the shots.  This elite selection of images represents the best from the world of action and adventure sports photography and shines a spotlight on the unsung heroes behind the lens.

The evening will be hosted by celebrity duo Alyson Hau and Cyrus Chow, and attending guests include local dignitaries and a who’s who of the photography world. VIP guests include a number of Leica, broncolor and Sun-Sniper special guests, as well as several Red Bull Illume judges such as Naima Elisa Mancini from La Gazetta della Sport, Italy, Jym Wilson from USA TODAY, Daisuke Nogami from TransWorld SNOWboarding Japan and K. Madhavan Pillai from Better Photography, India.

Throughout the week there are workshops and activities to engage photographers and the public. At the Winner Award Ceremony, a flatland BMX display by international athletes Viki Gomez and Matthias Dandois will take place and the stars will perform alongside an illuminated traditional dragon dance.

The photographers’ images will then be unveiled on 6 x 6ft lightboxes and the free public exhibition that takes place from 8-11pm every night from August 30 – September 15 will be officially opened.

After the three-week exhibition, Red Bull Illume will go to the U.S. next before traveling around the world’s capitals and cultural hubs for the next two years as a unique night-time exhibition.
