When Newport’s Andrew Doheny aka “Droid” was young he used to ride grommet boards. And when he stepped up in size, most of his old boards went to other groms around the neighborhood. Like this old board that ended up under the feet of Newport grommet Strider Snead several years ago…. But we recently reunited the board with its original owner Andrew and it brought back some great memories…. “It feels weird,” Andrew said, tucking it back under his arm feeling it out. “It’s trippy to see it again… I remember this board because when I got it a 5’3” felt like a real big board to me, cause I had been riding 4’10”s. But I remember this board, it was super good… It was sick!” What was cool about Andrew reuniting with his grommet board was the fact he can look at it as a shaper now. “It’s thin and has tons of rocker,” he says holding it up and looking down the rail. “My boards now are all thick and flat… but yeah Roberts made really good grom boards. Seeing it again makes me feel grown up.”
