51st Annual Coastal Edge East Coast Surfing Championships (ECSC) presented by Vans.

Cypress, CA (August 19, 2013) – Vans, the original action sports footwear and apparel brand, kicked off its east coast surf, skate, BMX, art and music showcase today at the 51st Annual Coastal Edge East Coast Surfing Championships (CE-ECSC) presented by Vans. The festival spans eight blocks of Virginia Beach sand and includes multiple events and activities including the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 4-Star Vans Pro and Vans Pro Junior, the Vans Off the Wall BMX Invitational, skate and BMX demos, an exciting musical performance by the Silversun Pickups, a fun-filled vendor village and so much more. All of the action is taking place August 19-25, 2013.

“I always get excited to go to Virginia Beach for ECSC,” said Vans Surfer Joel Tudor. “We’ve been lucky to get some good waves over the years and it’s fun to hang with the crew out there and pay respect to one of the longest running contests in the US.”

The Vans Pro and Vans Pro Junior are being webcast live all week long at www.vans.com/ecsc. The ASP 4-Star Vans Pro is the only US east coast event on the 2013 ASP Qualifying Series, attracting some of the nation’s top talent and international rising stars who are in search of crucial points towards their ASP World Ranking. Vans surfers Pat and Tanner Gudauskas are competing in the event this year along with an exciting contest appearance from Dane Gudauskas. While the Vans Pro will headline as the main event, the ASP 4-Star Vans Pro Junior will play a vital role in deciding both qualifiers for the 2013 ASP World Junior Championships and the regional under-21 champion.

Things will start heating up on the BMX course on August 23, with the start of practice and qualifiers for the Vans Off the Wall BMX Invitational, where top BMX riders including the recent Van Doren Invitational BMX winner Daniel Sandoval, will battle it out for $25,000 in cash prizes. On August 22, the halfpipe will host a locals skate demo with the pro skate and BMX demos beginning the 23rd which feature Vans skate team riders Omar Hassan, Sam Beckett, Alex Perelson, Sergie Ventura and this year’s Van Doren Invitational Skate women’s event winner Lizzie Armanto.

On the music stage, Vans is proud to present the Silversun Pickups. The Los Angeles-based band is currently touring the country to promote their recent album release ‘Neck of the Woods.’ Several bands will perform throughout the week and the complete listing can be found at www.surfecsc.com.
